HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University Office of Sports Information has launched sport-specific Twitter pages for several of the university’s athletic programs, in an effort to increase each program’s reach to fans and media alike.

Hampton’s football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, track & field, and softball programs will each have their own Twitter pages, in addition to the overall athletics page (@huathletics).

“In this era of social media, we thought it important to increase our presence (on Twitter),” Director of Sports Information Maurice Williams said. “This gives each program a chance to directly interact with fans and media, thereby increasing both their profile and the university’s.”

To follow each page, visit @Hampton_FB (football), @Hampton_MBB (men’s basketball, @Hampton_WBB (women’s basketball), @HamptonU_Track (track & field), @Hampton_SB (softball), and @Hampton_VB (volleyball).

Each page will tweet updates before, during, and after each season, including – but not limited to – live in-game updates, statistics of note, press releases, and other information. Each Twitter page will also post tweets using the hashtag #PiratePride.

Fans who tweet about Hampton University athletics are also welcome to use that hashtag.

Accounts on Instagram and Vine are also in the works.
